the cinema

I don’t know what it is about going to the movies, but it is one of my FAVORITE things to do. Even if I’m not dying to see that particular movie, I just enjoy going to the theater and getting an inappropriately large bucket of popcorn and a gigantic drink and sitting in the dark watching the big screen. The hubs and I go all the time! I’m pretty sure that couples that go to the movies together live long and happy lives with one another. But that’s just a hypothesis.

Now, lest you think that we are into dropping 40 bucks every weekend just for a good time, allow me set you straight. We know how to do it on the cheap! There is a theatre about 15 minutes from our house that has drastically reduced ticket prices. It’s a Cinemark theatre and plays all the same movies as the expensive theatres. Only this one charges $4 for an adult matinee! $4 people! After 6:00 pm the ticket price is $6.50 for adults, $4.00 for kids).

Now, I know what you’re thinking…”Wow, this place must be sketch.” Well actually, Debbie Downer, they just renovated it a few years ago and it is very nice.

If you’re like me and you have no qualms about shoving fistfuls of popcorn with obscene amounts of butter into your mouth during your cinematic experience, see if your theatre offers a weekly coupon. We get free stuff all the time. Last time, we paid $8.00 for two tickets, $5 for a bucket of popcorn and we got a free drink! And 13 just so happens to be my lucky number. Bam!

Compare that to another popular theatre in Norfolk where you can pay $7.50 for a matinee (which ends at 4:00, not 6:00) and $10.00 after 4:00! Then add your popcorn and drinks and you’re looking at $26 for a matinee. That’s twice as much!

A happy wallet is a happy wife.

(Have you noticed all the pictures in this post are of the food? Hmm… I’ll have to give that some thought…)
